Customer Alert: Counterfeit Rifle Sights sold on online auction sites

Midland, ON. (May 9, 2011) - Raytheon ELCAN Optical Technologies issues this Customer Bulletin to alert customers that counterfeit versions of both the SpecterDR dual role combat sight and SpecterOS4x lightweight day sight are being manufactured and sold by unauthorized distributors around the world. The counterfeit rifle sights are being offered on online auction sites.

Raytheon ELCAN cautions consumers, as with all online purchases:

1. Only purchase Specter™ Sights by ELCAN from authorized resellers.
2. caveat emptor – Buyer Beware – be careful if the price is “too good to be true” – it most likely is.
3. Specter™ Sights by ELCAN encompass advanced technologies subject to export restrictions.
4. To justify their low selling price, beware of sellers who report ELCAN Sighting Systems were received as prizes or gifts.
5. All genuine Specter™ Sights by ELCAN are sold with:
1. Unique serial numbers engraved on the body of the sight;
2. Raytheon ELCAN branded (or authorized reseller) packaging;
3. Raytheon ELCAN branded (or authorized reseller) User’s Manual.
6. “Red flags” of possible counterfeits:
1. If the patented magnification switch lever is missing from a dual role sight – it is counterfeit.
2. If the switch between magnifications is not nearly instant – it could be counterfeit.
3. If the sight does not maintain zero within tolerance when switched between magnifications – it could be counterfeit.
4. If the integrated lever-lock mount is missing – it could be counterfeit.
5. If the optics are not crisp and clear – it could be counterfeit.
6. If the elevation and azimuth adjustments are not distinct clicks – it could be counterfeit.
